I am a first year student at the University of Edinburgh. I have a strong academic background, however I pride myself on my social skills and feel strongly about the importance of doctors being able to speak well, and for this reason I feel as though interviews were my strong point.
I enjoy playing music, going to the gym and I play football 3 times a week (with uni and for a team). This, along with my former job of coaching as well as tutoring (before i started university), has improved my non-verbal, teaching and verbal communication which i feel are key to a doctor. I applied to Newcastle, Bristol, Glasgow and Edinburgh as I felt as though these cities were all places that fit my personality (being from Liverpool). I got places for all of them following and interview, and therefore chose Edinburgh as my first choice, and Newcastle as my second choice. Due to the wide variety of interview styles (short mmi, long mmi, and panel) I feel as though I have good experience and this can be applied to the majority of interviews. Prior to my interviews I had 3-4 mock interviews so have gained knowledge on this.
I would like to gauge the tutors understanding of interviews and medicine, then work from there. As i mentioned, i am quite a sociable person and feel that I could pass on my experience (from coaching and tutoring) to a student that would be key in an interview. I like to make the student feel comfortable and feel free to ask any questions
I tutored at Kumon for 2 years, and coached football for 2 years
At 16, I got promoted to start playing adult football. Going through the medical process ( a long process in my opinion), and progressing through every block as well as playing football 3-4 times a week and playing the piano and guitars, I feel I conquered this block well
