Hello, I am Kaviya a 4th-year medical student from Aston University. I hope to be of as much help as I can since I have first-hand experience just a few years ago. I think I will be able to help you out with the essential information you will need before the interview because, during my application, I know what worked well and what did not. I also remember being overwhelmed with advice and pointers on my personal statement but I feel like, after the whole process, I know what was most helpful practically in the few minutes you get to engage with the examiner and make an impression during interviews. Most students have all the knowledge they need because it wouldn’t be possible to make it this far without that but, to be able to present it in the best possible way, in a time-controlled and stressful environment is a skill that comes with practice and effort. With regards to IELTS and UCAT there are a lot of resources on the internet but finding what is the best resource for you is very important. The constant practice along with the right guidance made me achieve my goal.
I did GCSE and then switched to IB where I took biology chemistry HL and got a 7/7 and 6/7 in each. I took English as my SL and got a 7/7. My GCSE scores were exceptionally good due to which I was able to switch to IB and cope with the new curriculum and join medical school. I have a younger brother who did the same as me and I often help him out which keeps me in check with the curriculum. I know how challenging each of the curriculums was and having experienced both I feel that I have the qualifications to help out. Join me if you think it’s the right fit for you and I will try to be of utmost help.
My teaching style really depends on the student and I try to focus on the student’s strengths and weaknesses. I believe that every student is unique in their own way and so has their own way of learning. What works well for one student doesn’t always work the same way for others. I try to emphasize the student’s strengths to build confidence in them and work together in parts they are less confident in.
I have been tutoring medical applicants for interviews, applications, and personal statements as well. The applicants were mostly from Aston university, UOB, Brighton and Sussex, Leicester medical school, Buckingham university and UCLAN.
I have also been tutoring students doing GCSE and IB for the past 4 years a few of whom are now my juniors at medical school.
I have helped a student who dropped out of medicine re-apply due to personal issues but we managed to embrace the issues she faced during her year in medicine and turned them into positive lessons that later made her re-discover her interest in the course.
