Hi my name is Iona and I am a third-year Veterinary student at the University of Surrey. In A-level I achieved A* in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths. I have always loved birds and all things farm animals. I have looked after ducks, chickens, small animals and other livestock from very small. Growing up in a medical environment, I have had a keen interested in Medicine. So along with my passion for helping animals, i have always been driven to study Veterinary medicine. Outside of studying, I do lots of societies such as ultimate frisbee, gymnastics, running and weightlifting. I believe it’s very important to have balance whilst studying at university and it’s an easy way to clear your mind and make lots of friends along the way.
I also love challenges so i am currently training for a half ironman next year in order to raise money for JDRF.
I think it is really important to have a wide range of styles as everybody is different and comfortable with different ways of learning. As well as this, i have found that having discussions with students about certain topics allows me to understand their way of thinking and allows them to build confidence which is essential for the interview process
I believe all achievements are something to be proud of. One of my proudest achievements was winning two prizes at the end of sixth form for my achievements and hard work. Outside of studying, I also compete in many running races and dance competitions, which I am very proud of.
