My name is Sophie and I am currently a final year medical student at the University of Dundee!
I have always loved teaching so since the start of medical school I have been involved with helping students with the medical school application process through the Widening Access Society at my university, which I was also President of for 2 years.
As part of this society I was involved with the running of interview workshops and providing aspiring medical students with information about the application process!
I am specifically interested in supporting you with the personal statement writing and interview process as it can feel like a really daunting prospect at first! However, I want to help make the process as enjoyable and stress free as possible. The interviews can seem challenging but after some preparation I am sure that you will find answering the questions fun and view it is a chance for you to showcase how amazing you are!
Lastly, I would really like to work with you so that you can feel prepared for whichever stage in the application process you are at and allow you to feel really confident and able to perform at your best!
I like to keep my tutoring sessions really fun and interactive as I always feel that I learn best from doing things rather than just listening to someone talk for hours or reading things over and over again.
I am really keen to involve you in the planning process of our teaching sessions to make sure that you get the most out of every session and we focus on areas that you struggle with.
For interview preparation specifically, I think that practicing answers to lots of different types of questions is important. Also, becoming comfortable talking about yourself is key as this is something which doesn’t always comes naturally so we will be doing lots of practice with different question styles to help you be a top performer at the interview!
In terms of my experience, I recently completed an intercalated degree in medical education, from which I graduated with a first class degree, which allowed me to gain a teaching qualification whilst also studying for my medical degree. This has given me great experience in teaching medical students and also people like yourself who are going through the medical school application process. I have also run several workshops with aspiring medical students on interviews and personal statements to help them through the application cycle.
One of my achievements I am most proud of from the beginning of my university journey was obtaining the highest score in my year for the OSCE (practical) exam in my first year of medical school.
My work as President of the widening access society at my university is one of my proudest achievements. In this role I was able to work to encourage people from all backgrounds to consider a career in medicine and help them to achieve this goal!
