Hi, Iโm Laura and Iโm a student in my final year at Bristol University, studying Veterinary Medicine. I also completed a Gateway year (so I am doing 6th years in total!), so I am happy to discuss this too! I am interested in pursuing a career in mixed veterinary practice (farm/small animal) or something non-clinical, such as research.
I am experienced in proofreading personal statements, having worked with potential veterinary students in different roles. I can also help with interview technique and mock interviews, having experience in one-to-one, panel, MMI and group interviews.
I have worked in various mentorship roles, such as during a residential pre-vet summer school, as a volunteer for a widening participation scheme and also mentoring first-year students within the University. I love my course and all of the opportunities that it has given me, so I enjoy giving back to future students.
I understand that the application process can be overwhelming and it is easy to compare yourself to others, but each student can bring range of experience and skills, so I think itโs important to highlight these and build the studentโs confidence.
I have been working for StudyMind for the past year. Prior to this, I volunteered as an A-Level/GCSE tutor for the Coronavirus Tutoring Project, as well as widening participation initiatives such as IntoUniversity and Zero Gravity.
I also have taken on various mentorship roles, such as working as a Peer Mentor for first year students settling in within my University for the past 4 years.
I always try to make the most of new opportunities on offer at University and try something new every year, such as learning to swim! This year I have taken up mountain biking and pottery.
