Hi there! I’m Shreya, a second-year medical student at Queen’s. The absolute best part of my course is meeting and talking to patients, and can’t wait to be doing that every day from next year! For now, we only get to meet patients and practise our clinical skills once in a week or two, which I constantly look forward to! I think the best part about it is that after studying the sciences for almost two whole years, it all starts to come together practically which is so exciting. It is so easy to forget what we’re working towards when we’re just at home studying lectures all day.
When I’m not at home trying to catch up on uni work, or in-class seeing patients, you can find me at the gym (pre-pandemic, of course), or doing some type of outdoor activity (I love going on walks, swimming and skating). I also love writing, painting and playing the guitar.
My teaching style is very unique to the student. I work with what the student likes/wants and what their goals are at the end of my teaching session. But usually, I like to start with what the student already knows and work up from there. It is pointless teaching you everything if you already know most of it! So starting with a few mock questions to see where you stand, and then giving you feedback (both, good and constructive feedback!) and then teaching you more about what you need to know. But, again, I’m very flexible and happy to work with what the student wants from our sessions.
I’ve been teaching at MedicMind for two years and have taught 30+ students with interviews and UCAT so far. I am also a committee member at swotUP society at Queen’s. We help students with their medical interviews! So I’ve had plenty of practice with teaching medical ethics and doing mock interviews with students over the last year and a half.
I have to say my proudest achievement is getting into med school. As cliche as that sounds, it’s true. I worked incredibly hard the last year of school to get where I am today, and I just couldn’t imagine myself anywhere else. I love medicine and can’t wait to be a great doctor for my patients someday ๐
