Hi, my name is Malaika, I am a 4th year medical student at the University of Plymouth. I studied a foundation year in medicine which required a lot of planning ahead and perseverance, but it gave me key insights on the unconventional path to medicine and how to apply with qualifications other than A Levels. I have worked hard to get where I am today from struggling in year 9 to thriving at medical school, I know how much hard work it takes to get here. I have been through this process and have struggled, and I know the amount of determination it takes to achieve those dreams, but I am here to help you. I am easy to talk to and willing to help at any given moment. I had to go through my studies and applying to medical school alone so I know how hard the process is, during this time I have developed many tips that I would have greatly appreciated when I was in those situations. I am always here to help, so if you have any questions, please feel free to ask!
Student led and friendly. I will always have a plan in place, but in my style of teaching it is important that the student has a say in what they are studying as it will make it more beneficial to both of us. I am always here to help no matter what and I am extremely patient so no matter what happens I will be with you every step of the way to help.
I have helped other students with applying to medicine: this consisted of me helping with their personal statement and giving them tips to get through their interviews, most of which got accepted. I have also tutored people in lower years in mainly sciences and history as I have a passion for them.
From being a struggling student in high school to becoming a medical student without any help at all is one of my proudest moments. I have helped set up a society to integrated widening participation students into the university which bridged the gap between foundation students and the healthcare schools. I have helped refugees from different countries learn English and helped them get into courses that would be beneficial to them. I have also set up a YouTube channel to help future medics get into medicine.
