Hello, my name is JoJo and I am currently a 4th year medical student at Barts and the London (QMUL). I am originally from Edinburgh, Scotland, and I went to the City of Edinburgh Music School for primary school. I have been tutoring music to children and adults of all ages for the last 8 years, so have many experiences tutoring.
I received medicine offers in my last year of secondary school from QMUL, Edinburgh and Aberdeen. I also performed well in my UKCAT, with scores over 700+ in AR and QR.
I graduated secondary school with AAAAA in Advanced highers (equivalent to A-levels) and AAAAAA highers (equivalent to AS-level).
I have also volunteered with In2MedSchool for the last 2 years which focused on one to one tutoring session to help students get into medical school, supporting them through their UCAS application, medical school interview preparations along with UKCAT and BMAT advices.
I also have 10 hours of experiences tutoring a graduate student in preparation for her SGUL medicine interview, which she got an offer in the end.
I am a very friendly person and also very enthusiastic on education/teaching, so I would be a great person to help you get into your desired university.
The first session would be the getting to know each other session. Here, I would invite my students to tell me what their goals are and how I would be able to help them best. I usually make PowerPoint presentation on the key points they need to mention in their personal statement/interview, and then go through mock questions for the interview with them. Here, I would first pick out the key structures/formula to use when tackling interview questions, then I will give them mock questions to try out themselves, and then I will give them feedback on their performance and go through the answers with them.
Yes, I have a lot of past experiences with teaching and tutoring.
8 years of music teaching, 2 years of medical school focused volunteering teaching and 10+ hours interview preparation with the student who successfully got into their desired medical school. Moreover, I have also volunteered to teach young children (years 1 and 2) with Teddy Bear Hospital regarding health and teeth hygiene along with 2 week summer teaching experience in India with SKIP (Students for Kids International Project) teaching primary school children hand hygiene and sexual health to secondary school students.
I also received first class with honours in my intercalated degree (iBsc) in Biomedical Engineering and Clinical Materials at QMUL.
