Hello, my name is Lorna and I am currently a specialty registrar in Orthodontics at Kings College London (KCL).
I would love to help you with your interview preparation or personal statement for dentistry or medicine. I am also able to help with post-graduate specialty training interviews.
My Background:
I graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2017 (Dentistry) and received a distinction for my PgCert in Medical Education in 2020. I also have MFDS RCS (a surgical qualification).
I have completed three years of core training in a Hospital based setting prior to commencing specialty training. This involves national recruitment based interviews, and I have ranked in the top ten nationally on 2 occasions.
I have an active role in teaching at work, and have multiple publications in peer reviewed journals. I have also won multiple prizes and awards as an undergraduate and also as a post-graduate.
Previous Employment:
– General Dentistry
– Oral Medicine / Oral Surgery
– Paediatrics (Great Ormond St)
– Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery + a wide range of medical specialty exposure.
I would really like to help others improve their interview skills especially since I (personally) have found that it can be particularly challenging to find the right resources.
Completion of a PgCert in Medical Education has really helped me to develop a wide range of teaching styles. I enjoy to use a mix of teaching styles, and in interview preparation I feel that it is especially important to use a wide range of methods, such as problem based learning and didactic teaching. I do, however, think it is important to adapt the type of teaching to the student as we all learn differently.
Yes! I have been fortunate to have had a wide range of exposure to teaching during my post-graduate training. I have taught dentistry to undergraduates on a regular basis whilst working at Cardiff Dental Hospital. I have also given tutorials across a wide range of topics (and to very different audiences). Examples include: paediatric dentistry, Oral medicine and metabolic medicine (to name a few). I have also produced E-learning resources as well as seminars and larger (more didactic) teaching.
I have particularly enjoyed academic writing as a post-graduate, and have been very pleased to have the opportunity to publish in several peer reviewed journals.
I am also particularly grateful to be a specialty registrar as it has taken a lot of work to get to this stage!
