1About Me
Hi! My name is Rita, and I am in my first year of veterinary school at the University of Nottingham. I received offers for veterinary medicine from both the University of Nottingham and Royal Vet College. I am eager to be able to tutor students for their interviews as I myself had a tutor help me with my interviews who helped me greatly, and I want to give that kind of reassurance to other prospective vet students. I know how stressful the application procedure for UK veterinary schools can be, especially considering how different it is from that of other degrees, and want to have the opportunity of making that process easier for people by teaching them what I myself learnt. I generally also miss teaching – I taught a class of debate students for the past two years and chaired some competitions – so am excited to have the opportunity to teach again.
My teaching style
During my interviews – and generally at other points of life – I find that being stressed makes the whole process much worse and your overall performance can be affected. That is why I will focus on ensuring that students are comfortable with doing interviews. This will involve practicing sample questions that are similar to what they would face at their interviews. I will also be very open to answer any questions the students have, even if they are relatively obvious because one can’t be expected to know everything. I will also be able to provide tips on how to be perceived as an ideal candidate due to my many years of debate.
My past experience
I taught a debate class for my last two years of high school. This involved teaching a group of younger students the basic behind debate by shaping their first year of the club. I would also chair debate competitions that took place within the school, for the older as well as younger students since I myself had already participated in so many competitions.
My Proudest Achievements
Actually one of my proudest achievements is definitely being able to get offers for vet school despite my university counsellor telling me I would not be accepted, because their lack of support meant I went through the process with little external help. Some others include being accepted into some competitive debate competitions, and having been able to achieve my brown belt in judo.
