Hi my name is Reeya, and I’m a second year Dental student at the university of Bristol. I’m a hardworking, very sociable person who loves to go out whilst balancing my work. At university I am part of the dental netball team, which is a great way to make new friends, but is also a great way to network and get to know other years which can be very helpful. At university I live in the centre of Bristol with 7 other housemates and it’s great because everyone does different courses so there’s always something new to learn and talk about. We all get on really well, which is amazing and I am continuing to live with them next year. so that should be fun. I live at home in London, and love going back to see my home friends, but also often go and visit them at their prospective uni’s when I get the chance!! I love helping other people and meeting new people as I would like to think I’m a very sociable talkative person!!
My teaching style is quite relaxed and chatty. I prefer to teach through conversations and questions, and advocate for students to talk through their topics with me and ask me any questions that they have. I prefer an interactive approach over lots of worksheets and PowerPoints as I feel people learn better and retain more information and that’s the teaching approach I found the most helpful. As I am quite young, I’d hope to think that I can relate with them and that they know I understand what they’re going through as I myself, have only done it very recently. I just want to make sure my students are comfortable and are able to ask me things, even about university life itself and not just academically.
My proudest achievements are achieving Gold DofE in year 12, as this was an immensely challenging but amazing experience. I became so close with my friends, and it also really highlighted to me how important teamwork is which is a huge part of being a dentist. I am also really proud of gaining my blackbelt in tae kwon do, which took a lot of perseverance and commitment to training, however I really enjoyed it, and it was also a great form of exercise and maintaining good health. Lastly of getting into dental school, which I never thought I’d be able to do, but now I’m here I’m having the best time and wouldn’t change any of it.
