Hi, I’m Isaura (rhymes with ZARA)!
I’m a friendly final year medical student at Sunderland University. It’s been a long journey to get to this point but I now have a wealth of knowledge of medicine (compared to my humble medicine application beginnings). I have experienced both the preclinical and clinical years of medical school- now being on placement for most of my time! Science and Maths are two things I’m very passionate about and enjoy doing. I always say that maths is fun once you understand it- which I aim to help you do! Finding something hard can make a subject a lot less enjoyable so hopefully we can collaboratively put the fun back in these GCSEs. I also know how tough the application process is for medicine so hope to make this a lot smoother for you!
I am passionate about passing on knowledge, so you’re definitely in the right place! The patience and thoughtfulness of others is something that has helped me along my journey and it is something I have instilled within myself to be for others. You never have to feel shy or embarrassed about bringing up a topic that you struggle with when talking to me- no problem is too small and no question is too ridiculous… apart from inappropriate ones of course!
Practice makes perfect and we’ll get a lot of that in- it works if you work it!
I like to use illustration to help make a point, so you might find me applying something like a packed fridge compartment to the concept of rates of reaction! I also use active recall to help your brain form stronger pathways for memory- for example filling a blank sheet of paper with all your knowledge about a subject. We’ll move on from a topic when you feel like you’ve mastered it and then I’ll surprise you with a question about it in the future just to ensure the confidence is long term, not short term. My methodology is about putting your education back in your hands in an individualised way, adapting to the nuanced needs of my tutees
I have worked with young people in a voluntary position since 2015 mentoring them. I have also had some experience as a teaching assistant in year 7 classes.
In addition to this, I have been teaching with Medic Mind for quite a while with a number of students so far.
Starting from the beginning- getting no grade below an A at GCSE.
After this- learning from my mistakes the first time I did my A Levels and achieving 3A*s at A Level the second time round.
One of the biggest- getting into a medical school I absolutely love!
And finally, making my way through most of medical school to be soon starting work!
