Hello, Iโm Callum, a medical student at the University of Glasgow School of Medicine currently intercalating in Emergency Medicine at the University of Plymouth, based in Manchester. Having gone through the process myself, I understand how difficult and stressful applying to medicine can be and Iโm looking forward to helping you with all aspects of the medical admission process from UCAT to interviews.
I have an interest in Intensive Care, A&E and Academic Medicine, including Medical Education. Iโm passionate about guiding medical applicants throughout their journey to medical school and developing my teaching skills which will be very useful in my medical career.
Aside from medicine, Iโm a keen dinghy sailor and I regularly sail and race at a club level whilst enjoying the social aspect of sailing and university life. I am involved in lots of University Societies and sit on a number of committees.
Last year I was the Captain of GUSC (Glasgow University Sailing Club) which runs and competes at competitive sailing events across the UK and the Co-President of Epsilon Year Club which is the society for the 3rd Year Medical Students at Glasgow University and runs social and educational events for our year included an annual ball.
For the past two years, I have sat on the SSLC (Staff Student Liason Committee) which represents medical students and ensures their concerns is raised with Medical School staff and have previously sat on the Hosptial Subdeans Committee which discusses matters relating to clinical placements.
I look forward to helping you with your UCAT, Interview and beyond, best of luck with your application!
Medical admissions tests and medical interviews are unlike any exam you will have sat in school. Simply having knowledge wonโt help you, you need to understand the techniques and strategies to ace your UCAT and interviews. Therefore, I believe it is not my job to simply teach you the information but to help you develop strategies to tackle any question which could come up. I also put a significant emphasis on practice, it is the single best way to prepare and I help all my students not only get the right answer but also to understand the process of reaching that answer.
I have over 530 hours of experience tutoring medical applicants, helping them master their UCAT and interview techniques as well as tutoring Advanced Higher Chemistry and Biology. I have also written UCAT (SJT) questions and SJT Mocks for Medic Mind. Furthermore, I have been an interviewer during 12 of the Medic Mind MMI Circuits.
I have been a professionally qualified dinghy instructor for over five years and recently qualified as a powerboat instructor. This role involved running weekend and week-long courses for adults and children. This involved teaching students both theory and practical skills in the classroom and on the water. In 2021, I qualified as a Senior Dinghy Instructor and have worked one season managing a team and focusing on teaching and developing more junior instructors.
My proudest achievement was getting accepted into medical school having achieved 5 A1s (Maths, History, Physics, Chemistry & Human Biology) at Higher, 3 A1s (Maths, Chemistry & Biology) at Advanced Higher, a top 10% UCAT score and getting offers from 3 top medical schools. I passed my first year of medical school with distinction (top 10% of the year) and was successful in applying for a competitive external intercalated degree in Emergency Medicine.
