Young Doctor Experience - Immersive Medicine Programme

When it comes to hospital work experience, there are a range of possibilities. However, due to the nature of hospital patient care, many students find it difficult to secure work placements due to the number of places available. This can be similar on other medical specialties such as GP surgeries, hospices and wards. If you book a place on our 5-day medicine summer school or work experience, we've done all the organisation for you, so you don't have to worry! No need to read books about doctors experiences, you can be there experiencing it yourself!

You can organise this yourself. Most NHS trusts require you to go directly through their websites rather than contacting the individual departments directly. Some hospital trusts have dedicated work experience programmes for aspiring medics but these will need to be applied to far in advance as places are limited and competition is high.

The young doctor experience week is non-refundable once booked. This is because we have to plan for all logistics including accommodation bookings, room bookings and more. If you are unsure whether you can attend but don't want to lose your spot, you can pay a non-refundable deposit of £500 to secure your place. The remaining payment will be due before the start of the course.

All the settings (including the accommodation) take place in either Central London, Birmingham or Manchester. Medical applicants will have the opportunity to experience a local hospice as well as a hospital setting. What's more, throughout the placements, you will be working with experienced medical professionals so get ready with all your questions to ask doctors on work experience!

Absolutely not! 70% of our students are international and live overseas. We arrange pick up from the airport to the accommodation and one of the Medic Mind team will meet you and also drop you back to your departure terminal if needed.

Safety is paramount to our Work Experience week. Your child will always be accompanied by the Medic Mind Safeguarding team for any travel needed. There will be a short trip on public transport to and from the accommodation and to the to the hospitals/hospice but this will be fully accompanied.

If you require accommodation for the young doctor experience, it is available at an extra cost. The accommodation is always a short trip away from the medical settings where you will be doing your work experience.

Students coming to the UK for the Work Experience will need a Standard Visitor visa- https://www.gov.uk/standard-visitor

The Standard Visitor visa can only be applied for by parents/guardians and costs £100. They must apply through the UK Gov website only, You can name our course and Medic Mind as the guardians of under 18s, and provide then the course information and booking confirmation when applying for the visa.

We recommend booking flights first before applying for the visa, as the visa needs proof of a return flight (the course end date might be enough, but might result in rejection).

Absolutely! Prior to attending the week, we kindly request that you inform us of any health conditions you may have so that we can take necessary precautions beforehand. At all times, your child will be supported by our Medic Mind staff who are DBS enhanced and have full first aid and safeguarding training. We will always have a female member of staff on-site and at our accomodation. Students will be given a 24-hour emergency number which they can contact at any time and can be passed on to parents and guardians if needed.

The work experience runs for 5 days. Each day begins at 9am and will end around 3pm, however an exact timetable will be sent to you beforehand. If you are staying with us at the accommodation provided, we will arrange activities in the evening like movie night, bowling and more!

We know the current economic situation makes it difficult to pay up front. We offer interest free instalments for 3-6 months but require a non-refundable deposit of £500. We also offer a bursary scheme; contact us for more details!

No, you do not need to book our accommodation - You can either commute or book your own if needed. The advantage of booking ours is that you will be looked after by our team and reside with other students on the work experience programme.

Yes! We get many dental students and veterinary students on our courses. The teaching for themes such as Interview and Personal Statement are applicable to all parts of the dentistry and veterinary interviews.

Yes, certainly! We have many international students who attend our Medicine Summer Schools, and we offer medicine summer schools for students from all countries.

Alongside the young doctor experience, you will receive access to our UCAT Online Course, BMAT Online Course, Interview Online Course, Personal Statement Portal, A-level Biology Online Course, A-level Chemistry Online Course. These courses include question banks and video tutorials - for example, for UCAT we include 4000 questions, 5 books and 100+ video tutorials.
